In the movie Blue Jasmine, directed by Woody Allen, Cate Blanchett portrays the character Jasmine. Blanchett depicts this character with acute nuance. Jasmine is complex. She is a former socialite who lived a lifestyle funded by her cheating husband. When she reports her husband’s fraud to the FBI, her life is ripped from her. The mask she formally wore, which hid the anxious unaccomplished woman Jasmine truly is, comes unplastered from her face when she finds herself without the lifestyle her husband’s money afforded her. Cate Blanchett does a remarkable job of revealing Jasmine’s true persona while maintaining the facade of what Jasmine wants society to see.
